Scheme of the model, control contours

The modelling object can be represented as a ring system of compartments: left ventricle (HL), systemic artery (AL), capillaryvenous systemic compartment (systemic vein) (VL), right ventricle (HR), pulmonary artery (AR), capillaryvenous pulmonary compartment (pulmonary vein) (VR). Aortic, tricupsid, pulmonary and mitral valves provide direct blood flow through this ring system.

AV - aortic valve
MV - mitral valve
PV - pulmonary valve
TV - tricupsid valve

Compartments HL, AL, VL are included in the systemic circulation, HR, AR, VR - in the pulmonary circulation.

The numerical parameters describing compartments, are not constants, they change under the action of control signals which are in turn formed as a result of functions measurement of a system status vector. So, we have the object, controlled by a principle of feedback contours.

In our model two main contours are mentioned.

  • Control contour of ventricular output.
Reflects a principle of cardiac output regulation in well-known Frank-Starling's law. This contour is controlled by values of systolic ventricular pressure.

  • Neuronumoral control contour.
Reflects various interdependences of the blood circulation conditions, carried out by nervous and hormonal organism subsystems. This contour is controlled by value of neurohumoral factor, that is a numerical expression of total control influence of nervous and hormonal mechanisms.
