Intraaortic baloon pump The method of intraaortic baloon pump (IABP) is used for treatment of patients with acute heart failure. The main point of this method is bringing a balloon in the aorta, this balloon can dilate and contract under the action of an external controlled pneumatic pump. The balloon dilates in diastolic phase and contracts in the systole, it leads to reduction of hydraulic load on the left ventricle in the systole and improvement of coronary blood flow in the diastole.
